3 July 2025, Balochistan – As part of the Deliver Justice Project, funded by the European Union, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) continues to drive forward its mission to modernize governance and improve human rights compliance within the Balochistan\u2019s justice sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Correctional facilities in Balochistan face systemic challenges, including overcrowding, inadequate infrastructure, limited rehabilitation services, and weak capacity among prison staff. UNODC is committed to addressing these gaps by strengthening institutional knowledge, promoting rights-based practices, and fostering a culture of rehabilitation and reintegration. In this spirit, two transformative training sessions for prison staff were held from 19\u201323 May and 1\u20133 July 2025, focusing on strengthening prisoner rehabilitation, safety, and rights-based governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trainings brought together a cross-section of Assistant Superintendents, Chief Warders, Warders, and Matrons from across Balochistan\u2019s prison network, fostering shared learning, peer exchange, and skills development to support humane and effective correctional practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first five-day session focused on prisoners\u2019 safety, security, and rehabilitation, equipping prison staff with knowledge and skills to ensure rights-based and secure correctional facilities. Participants engaged in detailed modules on international human rights standards, particularly the Nelson Mandela Rules, which outline minimum standards for the treatment of prisoners. Emphasis was placed on the essential role of prison staff in upholding these standards and ensuring the humane treatment of incarcerated individuals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
